A highly selective molecular imprinted polymer for the extraction and determination of bisphenol A (BPA) in real environmental water samples was prepared and evaluated by adsorption/desorption experiments, followed by HPLC-UV analysis. The molecular imprinted polymer was obtained by using diazomethane/water as a new grafting method. Results indicated that the imprinted polymer possessed specific molecular recognition for BPA molecules, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 19.8 mg/g, and an imprinting factor of 18.2. The adsorption process was very fast, with equilibrium adsorption reached within 8 min. The elution solvent of methylene chloride was selective and could remove the template. The prepared molecular imprinted polymer exhibited good performance in the extractions of BPA from different real environmental water samples. The concentrations of BPA in environmental water samples extracted with this new molecular imprinted polymer were determined by HPLC, with recoveries in the range of 83-117%. BPA-imprinted polymer could be reused for at least 30 adsorption/desorption cycles, and no decrease in adsorption capacity was observed.
